At 13 weeks out and really my 2nd week to introducing running post injury, I am focusing on just building a base while keeping my heart rate down. This is utilizing a jog/walk strategy. I am also doing rehab and strength training while cross training by incorporating my bike trainer.
Monday
30 min run/walk (2.33 miles) – 12:54/mi with avg HR 137 bpm
I did intervals of 10 x 2 min jog and 1 min walk
The Garmin HRM-Fit is definitely a gamechanger for women. This just clips right to your sports bra instead of feeling tight completely around you and under your sports bra. Check it out here (commissions earned.)

off – I did end up going to Urgent Care on this day because on rare occasions I get a chest flutter. I was able to catch it on my Garmin with the ECG app and it said a-fib. I’m not sure if I then sent my blood pressure up, or if it already was up, but I continued to take it and got concerned when it hit 150/86. I was feeling off with a wave of dizziness while sitting. Just one of those feelings like you may get before you faint. We think it was from my panicking. My co-worker who is a nurse calmed me down and I felt fine, but still wanted to go get checked out, especially because I didn’t want to go out for a run if something was wrong. Everything was fine and I will continue to check my blood pressure (been normal since,) but I will also bring it up with my provider when I have my annual physical and lab work. Then of course if I experience another flutter, I will go in before my scheduled appointment. Just a reminder that if you feel off, get checked out. It’s so helpful for peace of mind.
Sunday
3 mile run and walking when I noticed HR over 150.
3 miles – 12:49/mi with avg HR of 140 bpm
Total run time of 34:19 with 4:07 of walking
Total mileage for 13 weeks out: 10 miles
I did not bike any this week, but it will be introduced back next week.
If I do not feel ready to run the half marathon distance, then I do plan to drop down to the 10k as it gets closer to race day.
