Half Marathons – Fun, right?
I absolutely love the half marathon race experience. Mainly because there is always a good crowd. Both in the spectators and the runners. I never feel like I’m in no man’s land by myself. When I start feeling doubt or that I can’t do it, there is always someone watching to help push you through. The environment is unlike any other race. I’m excited for the Kansas City Half Marathon presented by Garmin. I have never ran in Kansas City, so I’m excited for this experience.
Training
If you have been following me on my social media channels, you would’ve saw that I was killing it with my training. Then life happened. My work schedule became early mornings and as we know, we just started to have fall weather. So after work it was still over 90 degrees. Not very welcoming for a tired person. Excuses though, I could’ve ran on my treadmill. Now I am currently in the middle of moving. I am hoping to at least get a few weeks of training, so I’m not completely out of shape.
Background: I only ran one half marathon of which I actually trained for. The other four were exactly like this. Promising until an injury or life excuses and I just went out and ran. I still love the experience, trained or untrained. I just had higher hopes for this race.
Expo
I would be lying if I said that the expo itself wasn’t my favorite part of the half marathon experience. I plan to be at the expo Friday at some point. The best part is that the race is a Saturday. Normally my half marathons are on Sunday and you race and then you have to travel back and resume normality on Monday. Enter in jelly legs and people wondering “wtf is wrong with you?” So, a Saturday race will be great!
Chiefs!
So, as I’m talking about a Saturday race, that means Sunday is free for FOOTBALL! As I will be in town, I will be going to the Chiefs vs. Bengals game that following Sunday. Arrowhead is an incredible stadium and you know how LOUD it gets! So I will be cursing the stairs to get to our seats, I’m sure. But totally worth it to cheer on the boys.
Hotel
The official hotel sponsors of this race are:
- The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center
- Hampton Inn and Suites Kansas City – Country Club Plaza
Normally on race day I am trying to figure out how to get from the parking lot or hotel I am in to the start line. I am actually pumped to be staying right at the start line, so I don’t have to worry about my poor geography skills. Winning.
Lululemon
This was such a surprise, but the Kansas City Marathon partnered with Lululemon and I absolutely love the one pair of shorts I own from lulu, so I decided to treat myself on some gear. I chose the longer shorts and the full tights. It was truly a tough decision, but I settled for just those two. I could’ve bought it all.
Bling
And last, but not least. The bling. I love collecting my race medals. In fact, I am hoping to score some good Black Friday deals this year and possibly get a good deal on a nicer medal display that what I have. But check out the different medals for the different distances.
