America’s Turkey Trot Virtual 5k
I try to do a turkey trot most years. I don’t think I did one last year, but one of my favorites that I can remember is special to me. It was the day after Zimmerman and I started to kind of date and the turkey trot was through Six Flags and I ran it with my best friend Angela. She underdressed and I had extra clothes so I gave her my sweater. We both got medals and it has been a fun memory of mine.
Of course COVID made in person Turkey Trots not so appetizing (pun intended,) so I was so excited to be able to participate in America’s Tukey Trot virtually. RamRacing always puts on great races in my opinion and I wanted to support them, plus you get amazing swag.
So in typical race day fashion, I had a delicious meal and then got my Flat Sam all laid out. Also, this was not going to be a “RACE” to me because you all know my running has been almost non-existent recently. But I was still impressed with my time, which we will get to.
This was my outfit, with an additional long sleeve underneath and I definitely didn’t need it. But the weather was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed getting out the door and a reason for that. I secretly had a goal in my head of what I would be super pleased with in terms of a finish time pace. I know I haven’t been running and know my capabilities and health status currently, so I was thrilled that I did run under sub 10 minute pace for the 5k. This was even with a couple of walking breaks. I was going off of heart rate and didn’t want to exert myself more than I needed to, so I slowed down to walk to catch my breath.
Nailed the sub 10 min mile pace and claimed my Thanksgiving Garmin Badges. Also, took 1st place HA! That’s a joke because it was virtual.
I will always support RamRacing because like I said, they have amazing races and great gear. Here is what the swag looked like!
You could also have upgraded and got a blanket and dog collar, which I thought was awesome. The blanket looked so cozy!
One of the best things about this race was that they were working with Feeding America to help fight to end hunger by feeding individuals nationwide through food banks.
The next RamRacing race is actually tomorrow for me and it will be the Hot Chocolate 5k! So stay tuned for that recap.
In the meantime, check out RamRaces and Bibrave to find your next race!
