Turkey Trot STL – St. Charles Family Arena
Why I signed up?
- I enjoy doing a turkey trot the morning of Thanksgiving.
- The price was great.
- The shirt was cute.
Training going into the race:
Barely any. A few runs of 1-3 miles here and there. Did not race this and used it as motivation for me to run on Thanksgiving, be around others running and have fun.
My thoughts about the run?
Like I said, the price was great. You get a great shirt and people to run with for under $25.
The course itself was not for me. I won’t be doing this one again. If you ask people their favorite race routes, you will get all different answers. For me, this one was not my cup of tea. I saw the course map during sign up, so it’s not like I didn’t know what I was getting into, it just was boring. You started out running around the parking lot, which for 3000 runners, a narrow cars width to run through at the start of a race wasn’t ideal. Also, it seemed no one paid attention to the corrals and that if you planned to walk from the start, don’t stand in the 7-8 min/mile corral. I only say this because I started in the 8-9 min/mile corral and couldn’t even start running at the start line and then had to be the rude one trying to maneuver around people and accidentally elbowing them. Then you run down the road and then turn to run back the same way you came, only to pass the arena and run further the other direction then turn to run back to the arena. So basically you stayed on one road doing turns and then back around the parking lot. Like I said, it just wasn’t for me.
But for the price and the shirt it was a great deal. I didn’t partake in the pancake breakfast afterward but it smelled amazing.
Post race, thank gosh I am done face. Now time for coffee! Picked up Dunkin’ Donuts for the family and drove home to start our Thanksgiving festivities.
My watch breakdown from the race.
Race breakdown.
The cute shirt. As you can tell, I’m a pretty simple person. I didn’t get too fancy and you can’t tell but my legs were straight shot after the race because I haven’t truly ran in so long, especially 30 degree weather. My nose and throat were burning! It obviously warmed up later in the day and I was able to take this picture in short sleeves.
