“So you want to do something hard this week?” That’s the question coach asked me. So I put in my best effort and actually felt pretty happy with the results. Training then fell off a little bit.
Sunday failed long run
This was Easter Sunday. I just wasn’t feeling 100% and when I got out the door I knew my body wasn’t having the 10 mile long run. In my head I was already calculating all the different routes for each different distance I would drop to. Ultimately I just stopped, turned around and came home. I just felt really hot and my allergies were acting up. I knew I would do more harm trying to push my body through the long run than just stopping and calling it. I feel part of me also wanted to be back helping with Easter and spending time with family.
So I got a solid 2.2 miles in with some walking.
Week 9: Tuesday – 3×1000, 400, 200
- 1.6 warm up
- 1000m – 7:16 pace
- 400m – 7:00 pace
- 200m – 6:12 pace
- 1000m – 7:30 pace
- 400m – 7:15 pace
- 200m – 6:47 pace
- 1000m – 7:41 pace
- 400m – 7:19 pace
- 200m – 6:26 pace
- .9 cool down
- total – 6.2 miles
This one was tough. It was one of the hotter days and we have not had many of those yet. I also felt awkward because a lot of people were walking, and I was just speeding past and then standing rest. The awkward “please don’t think I am trying to impress you or show off….just doing a workout.” ha!
Friday Night – 5k Race
Wow. Remember when I had been talking about my allergies? They got worse and this race was very hot. It was also very small. You did not get the adrenaline feel to carry you through. It felt like the virtual races you go do on your own and the performance was not there for me. I still was happy with my effort running on my own. But I also just did not have the juice. I ended up getting passed with about half a mile left and I couldn’t even try to pick it up.
- 3.15 miles in 25:10 at 8:00 min pace
Week 11 – Tuesday Easy Run
- 3.56 miles at 9:55 pace
I just did a nice easy run. I planned to go further, but I ended up going home after feeling bleh.
Sunday – Long Run
Last long run of training and I actually felt pretty decent! This was reassuring because as you can see, my training was a bit less than perfect.
- 7 miles at 9:25 pace
Week 12 – Race Week
As I write this, it is now the week of the race. I’m just focusing on recovery and carb loading ha! You’ll hear from me after!
