I forget I have this blog and at times I miss it and other times wonder how to not bore anyone. Ha! This used to be a place where I would recap my running for the week, but I’ve kind of landed in the IG world where things are just as simple as you need it to be.
So let’s recap
- I had a baby in the summer of 2021 and did not really run much throughout pregnancy because of discomfort in how little one was sitting. She was always so low.
- In March 2022 my running became more consistent and I got back into a groove here and there when I felt more like myself again. I will say, it did take me about 18 months before I felt like “me” again with running and about a little over a year postpartum in general.
- In October 2022 I got COVID for the first time and it knocked me down. All the momentum I had built up was gone. Every run was hard and I had to try so hard to keep my HR down.
- January 2023 I finally felt “in shape” and running did not feel so hard. Until I raced a 5k and my race effort felt like trash in my lungs. I had not done speed work since before getting COVID. So I knew what I needed to work on now as I fell into a comfortable pace for my 5k to finish safely with an 8:20 pace.
- So here we are. My goal postpartum was to focus on my 5k and I truly impressed myself each 5k I ran and improved each time prior to getting COVID. I knew 2023 was the year of the half marathon and I had planned that even while pregnant that 2023 would be the soonest I would think of running one.
- Half marathon training began and I’m putting in work. Some weeks are better than others and I think I’m here to share this next goal. I had a goal time in mind which was actually to beat my very first half marathon time which is still my PR and that is 1:45. I still have that goal but I’m thinking it will be more realistic for the Fall.
I’m not here to trash my own dreams or goals. I still am attempting to train with that goal in mind, but I’m thinking sub 2 hours and maybe sub 1:50 may be more realistic for April 29th’s half marathon.
I’m curious to know who else is out there training for a specific distance this year?
The furthest run I have done so far this year is a little under 8.5 miles.
As you can see, it was not on purpose and was only supposed to be an 8 miler.
I would like to be more present on here. I would like to still keep this simple so I don’t feel pressure or anything more. I would love to say I would like to do a weekly recap post like I used to for more training, but once again, I would hate to disappoint if I fall off. Instead of setting expectations, just know I will be more present here with sharing. Especially when I feel like sharing more than what I feel an IG caption length should be. For more real time updates, you should follow me on IG, just saying!
Here are a few photos from the year so far, just for fun.
