Something that has always been on my life “bucket list” was to visit the famous Nike Michael Johnson Track. If you grew up reading Runners World magazine, you probably have seen this track featured in there as one of the cool places to run. Well, at least that was me and I always loved seeing the cool trails with amazing views that people got the pleasure of running. Not to say that my concrete sidewalk running for most of my life wasn’t exciting, okay, it wasn’t. In fact, one of the reasons I loved Columbia, MO so much was the beautiful Katy Trail was right there for me to do all of my runs on. My hometown also had the Katy Trail but it wasn’t advised as a high school girl to go run on it alone, so those were saved for rare team runs on the weekend.
But since I am currently in Oregon, and I’m still figuring out Pre’s Trail, I will talk about this beauty of a track, instead. Let me just start by saying that I did not take this picture, and it saddens me because this was the picture I wanted to take, with me in it of course, however the track was closed for resurfacing.
The campus of Nike Headquarters is pretty locked down on security. I only get Sunday’s off, so I thought that maybe since it wasn’t busy, I would be able to walk around the campus and just look at stuff. I was wrong, because since it wasn’t busy, I looked out of the norm because I couldn’t blend in like I worked there. Since I wasn’t about to make a break in, I went to park on a part of campus that was allowed and took my journey by foot.
I respected the campus and didn’t walk through the gates, but I did take the outer trail that went by the track.
From there I got a closer view of the track, but saw it was blocked off. Sad. But it was still cool to be there and see.
I didn’t stay too long to check out much else because the air quality in Oregon has been awful with the wildfires. After checking out a bit of the campus from the perimeter, I drove to Portland to get my collectors “You are Here,” city mug from Starbucks. Checked out downtown a little bit and then made my way back to Eugene. My time in Eugene has been fun and it’s winding down now, which is a bit sad, but also exciting because I will make my journey back home. I will be posting about my current job situation later, but those close to me already know all about that.
